Your First Visit

Things to do prior to your appointment

Ensure you have a doctor’s referral prior to making an appointment

Our specialists accept only referred patients. This is partly to ensure that the specialist you are seeing is appropriate for you and your condition and, also, to ensure you receive the appropriate Medicare rebate for specialist services.

Make an appointment

Phone: (08) 8132-0566

Ask us any questions you may have including fee enquiries. However, these details will be provided in writing prior to your appointment or can be accessed online.

Complete and submit the following forms online:

Alternatively complete and return them prior to your appointment when received in the post.

It would be appreciated if you would also forward your referral to these rooms prior to your appointment either via email (info@agsc.com.au) or post.

If you need to cancel an appointment

Telephone the office during business hours and allow at least 1 day's notice so that we can offer your appointment time to patients on our waiting list.

When you come for your appointment

Please remember to obtain and forward or bring the following:

  • Referral letter from GP or Specialist. If you do not have a letter (eg your doctor is sending or faxing a letter), please phone (08) 8132-0566 the day prior to your appointment to confirm we have received this.
  • Medicare card, DVA card, Pension Card
  • Have your Private Hospital Insurance information with you
  • Bring all your ultrasound scan reports and films
  • Any other medical information, history, or blood test results that may be relevant to your health care

We recognise that your time is valuable, and we make every effort to run on time. Occasionally emergencies or patients require a little more time, and these cause scheduling delays beyond our control. We apologise if we keep you waiting.

The consult with the doctor

During your initial visit, the doctor will take a medical history and details of your current issues. In many instances this consult will include a physical examination. We also have ultrasound facilities which provide the doctors with realtime information. This enables us to offer a streamlined efficient service to aid diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Fees and insurance

  • The cost of consultations will be provided to you in writing prior to your first appointment.
  • Information on our current fee structure is also available from our reception staff.
  • We do request full payment at the time of consultation.   EFTPOS, Bank cheques, personal cheques, cash or credit cards (MasterCard & VISA) are acceptable means of payment.
  • As we provide longer than usual consultations we are unable to offer a Bulk Billing service. Variations to this billing structure are at our discretion.
  • A rebate is claimable from Medicare only.  Your private health insurance can only be used for “In Hospital” services.  We are more than happy to submit your account to Medicare.  The rebate will be either sent to you in the post or transferred into your bank account (if you have provided Medicare with these details).

Insurance cover for operations

  • In general, your private health fund and Medicare will cover a portion of the fees.
  • Please note that there will be, in most instances, an out-of-pocket gap for your surgery, and this varies from one procedure to another.
  • We will give you a written estimate of your gap prior to your surgery.

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure your health fund will adequately cover your surgery.

The costs of surgery relate to:

  • Surgeon and assistant surgeon
  • Anaesthetist
  • Hospital
  • Ancillary charge (pharmacy, non-rebated instruments etc)
